THE FRENCH REVOLUTION AND IDEA OF NATION
The very first idea of nationalism
was originated by french revolution.
They do following things to
establish common identity –
1. They change name of state general to national
assembly which was elected by active citizen.
2. A new tri colour flag was replaced from old royal
standard.
3. They abolished all internal customs and dues.
4. Uniform system of weight and measurement was
established.
5. Regional dialects (local language) were abolished
and French became the common language.
6. They started providing equal rights to all the
people of the country.
Civil code of 1804
Napoleon abolished democracy, but he made a
revolution in administrative system and made it more rational and efficient.
Following are the steps taken by Napoleon to do
this-
1.
He abolished all birth privileges and established equality before law.
2.
He establishes right to property.
3.
This code was exported to all regions under French control.
4.
He also made laws for welfare of peasants.
5.
Transport and communicative system was improved.
6.
He established standard weight and measurement system.
7.
He also introduced a common
currency.
Draw Back Of Civil Code Of 1804
1.
Increase taxation-for development money was required so he increased
tax.
2.
Censorship-Media was controlled by him.
3.
Force conscription into the French armies required to conquer the rest
of Europe.
